The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can.

—Neil Gaiman

I have served as a dramaturg for the Hedgebrook Women Playwrights Festival for 20 years, and have also worked with Sundance Theatre Lab, the New Harmony Project, Icicle Creek Theatre Festival, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre,  and Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Playwrights with whom I've collaborated include Tanya Barfield, Leanna Brodie, Dipika Guha, Kathleen Tolan, and Cheryl L. West, among many others. I was on the artistic staff of Seattle Repertory Theatre for nine seasons, where I served as dramaturg/literary manager, edited publications, and produced the annual Women Playwrights Festival. Hedgebrook Plays, Volume 1, which I co-edited with Liz Engelman, was published by Whit Press in November, 2012.

Playwright Cheryl L. West

I have  known Chris  over a decade and worked with her on many projects.  She is a brilliant dramaturg, researcher, and writer’s advocate.  Chris is the best sounding board, asks probing questions, and delivers material in a timely manner. I can always count on her to respect my intentions and support my goals for the work.

Playwright Kathleen Tolan

Chris Sumption combined warm support with curiosity, humor and vital insights, helping me to discover my play Memory House. It's had many productions since our many hours of conversation. Quite simply, her engagement in the process made it possible for me to discover the play.

Playwright Leanna Brodie

Christine Sumption is both a hawk-eyed diagnostician and a tireless ally, with a big brain and endless heart. She is a forthright, articulate, yet unfailingly respectful collaborator with no agenda except a fierce determination to support me in writing the plays I need to write (I always say that Chris seems to know what I'm trying to do even if I haven't done it yet.) That is why I have chosen to work with Chris consistently for the past fifteen years.
